Today, the Dental Board of Australia (the Board) joins dental practitioners and communities around the world to celebrate World Oral Health Day.
On 20 March every year, the FDI World Dental Federation asks everyone to come together to think about how to reduce the burden of oral diseases, which affect individuals, health systems and economies everywhere.
The international day’s current theme is Be Proud Of Your Mouth and encourages people to value and take care of their oral health for a lifetime of smiles.
‘The Board wishes all dental practitioners a happy World Oral Health Day and thanks you all for the work you do every day in promoting good oral health,’ Board Chair, Dr Murray Thomas, said.
‘Dental practitioners have the important role of empowering people with the knowledge, tools and confidence to look after their oral health. Good oral health can drastically improve a person’s quality of life, especially when we consider that most oral health conditions are largely preventable and can be treated in their early stages.
‘I encourage all dental practitioners to celebrate today and to remember how important your work is,’ Dr Murray Thomas said.
